Hi all,
.
I prepared for GATE with three of my BTech juniors – Anish, Pawan and Prasanna Karthik. They finished UG this year. They wrote GATE 2009 and got fantastic scores of 99.63, 99.60 and 99.71 percentiles respectively! The number of people who took the exam was around 41000, and these guys got ranks of 158, 162 and 117!! Needless to say, they performed spectacularly in the written tests and interviews and got admits into almost all the places they tried! Delighted to see them succeed SO spectacularly!!
.
PK has started blogging here about his GATE experiences. Since I was fully preparing with them for GATE 2008, many posts are as much about me as they are about him. I had blogged about IIT Interviews and choosing between MS and MTech. He’s written a lot of stuff that I wanted to, but was too lazy to write after these two
Moreover, his detailed descriptions of the strategies we adopted for preparing, our experiences etc will help GATE aspirants. Two good reasons to check him out..
The strategies he puts up are tested on two GATEs, and all four of us have succeeded through them. So I can safely claim that they are good and that they work for most. Please go ahead and adopt them or modify them as you wish, and let us know what worked for you
Do check out his blog.
.
The previous few posts have been about some other blog or video or the like. That’s because I was nearly drowning in work ! Second sem got over, and I got an S in both the courses I took. I’m a ten-pointer this sem!! With this, my course requirement is fulfilled, and my final CGPA is 9.21
Now I’ve started my research. Am working on improving reliability of architectures.
.
I also realized that my prof is a regular follower of the blog – he makes snide comments on every post, which means that he reads them all! Hi sir

karthrags

Thanks for all the complements given to us. For all those who do not know me, i am PK.
To tell the truth, 90% of all the strategies used by us were designed by karthik. Needless to say, he is the best person to explain them. Catch hold of him !!
the “pawan” in the article is me..err..”SO spectacularly”…i really didn’t do all that well. at kanpur the effort was good. in delhi i was pathetic. in ms interview@iitm i said every virtual address has a page table entry (after teaching paging/segmentation to so many ppl and reading it over and over again)!! what do you call that..!!! LOL…it must have been a joke to the panel..i’m lucky i cleared the interview.
other than that extravaganza, the post is fine
Hi Pawan,
Relax.. Answering to questions from a panel of IIT profs is never easy, especially on your nerves
Not surprising that you made a couple of dumb mistakes. Everybody does that, and the profs also know it. You don’t get penalized for it much.. More important is finding where you lack, and also getting an admit
You can expand the list of guys whom you helped to prepare for GATE 2009 with some of us who were very active in GateForum ( / Gatementor ) and got loads of help from you for preparing for both GATE and the M.S interviews. I found your blog helpful and motivational to anyone who is interested in Computer Science research. You were a strong advocate of research programs in both Gateforum and as a netizen. I hope that you would continue being a strong advocate of research programs and a real motivator for GATE aspirants to get them interested in research.
Thanks Sajin,
Really glad to have been of help!

No GATE IT.
Hello everyone,
I’ve been searching for good GATE books over the internet. Luckily, I found your blog.I have a query. Please reply.
I wanted to know if there is any minimum percentage of marks in B.Tech to qualify for GATE. I am in III semester now. And my pointer is exactly equal to the maximum runs a batsmen can get from a legitimate cricket delivery. Of course, it’s low, but I am really working on this. Please reply.
I don’t think GATE has a cut-off, but each IIT can impose a cut-off. 7 is safe.
Hi sir, this z venu gopal, final year computer engineering . Your blog is currently helping me to shape up my ways towards GATE-11…can you please tell me the 5 subjects I should be thorough enough to crack GATE-2011 for CS-IT paper
Hey Venu,
Welcome to my blog. Thanks for the comment – good to hear that the post was helpful
Since IITM is conducting GATE this year, concentrate on comp arch, networks, algorithms and discrete maths+graph theory. All the best!
hiii sir, I’m having semester exams from this nov1st to 19th…which is taking my most of the time…if I ignore GATE i loose the touch. How did u manage this during ur preparation?
